■ This morning, the first scientific conference on combating the challenges of addiction commenced at Thamar University, amidst a large attendance of academics, interested parties and experts. The conference was marked by significant organizational momentum, reflecting meticulous preparation and a comprehensive effort involving all relevant committees. This allowed the conference to begin its first steps with confidence and effectiveness, underscoring its scientific and national importance.

The launch took place under the supervision of the Higher Supervisory Committee, chaired by the University Rector, Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, along with his team led the preparation and organization with high scientific and organizational precision.

The committee included the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, the Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Abdulkarim Zabiba, and the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr.  Adel Al-Ansi and the university's General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Hutram, were present. This leadership combination reflected a clear sense of teamwork from the very first moments of the program's launch.

In the opening hours of the conference, attendees were presented with a meticulously organized event, spearheaded by the Preparatory Committee, led by Professor Dr. Adel Ali Emran, the conference chair. Professor Dr. Emran successfully outlined the general framework for the first day's activities with a refined and scholarly approach. He was assisted by the conference's vice-chair, Professor Abdulrahman Yahya Al-Haifi, who contributed to the robust academic structure of the upcoming lectures and sessions.

On the scientific content front, the Scientific Committee, chaired by Professor Dr. Abduellah Hussein Al-Adhruei, played a prominent role. It developed a rich scientific program based on high-quality lectures addressing the health, psychological, social and legal dimensions of addiction. This gave the conference's inaugural session a depth of research, reflecting the extensive preparation that preceded the opening day.

In terms of organization, the Organizing Committee, chaired by Professor Dr. Hadi Mujalli was also active. The opening ceremony was remarkably well-organized, with halls, entrances, and pavilions prepared to welcome participants and visitors. The Exhibitions and Companies Committee, chaired by Ahmed Sam Dawba, professionally prepared the scientific, student and supporting company pavilions, lending the opening a vibrant and engaging academic atmosphere.

The Media Committee, headed by Dr. Hamoud Al-Mawshki, played a crucial role in documenting the launch and broadcasting its atmosphere. The Finance Committee, led by Mr. Abdul Ghani Al-Hajjaji, also contributed significantly, overseeing support and coordination to ensure the smooth running of the event.

This integrated system of committees reflected the image of Thamar University as it launched a conference that positions it among leading Yemeni academic institutions, affirming its ability to manage large-scale scientific events based on planning, teamwork and a well-considered vision.

With this grand opening, the conference declared from its very first moment that it was not merely an event, but a major national project beginning today and continuing with clear objectives that extend from science to protecting society, raising awareness and building new pathways to combat addiction.

Behind the scenes, equally impactful efforts were underway. The services team, led by the General Director of the General Administration of Services, Mr. Ali Al-Ranna, ensured that the corridors, halls, and university facilities were ready to receive guests. Dr.

Essam Wasel skillfully facilitated the opening ceremony. The technical aspects were equally crucial. The computer team and network personnel, led by Engineer Ahmed Rabid, worked diligently to guarantee the stability of the technical systems and provide the necessary digital support for the conference. The faculty of the College of Medical Sciences, under the leadership of the college's General Secretary, Ahmed Al-Mujahid, contributed significantly to the smooth running of the event.

Dozens of unsung heroes in security, logistics, hospitality and student traffic management also played a vital role in the success of the day. The students of the College of Medical Sciences, whose presence was an integral part of the conference's spirit and dynamism were also instrumental. While the organizers apologized for not mentioning everyone by name due to space constraints, they expressed their deepest gratitude and appreciation to each and every one of them.

With this momentum of collective action, Thamar University succeeded from the outset in presenting a comprehensive image of an academic institution capable of leading major scientific events and in launching a conscious national conference that places the issue of addiction in its proper context as a societal problem requiring collective effort to protect it, raise awareness and safeguard the future of its youth.
