■ In his opening address, Professor Dr. Adel Emran, the Chairman of the First Scientific Conference on Addressing the Challenges of Addiction, welcomed the attendees from various disciplines and institutions. He also emphasized that holding this conference at Thamar University represents a significant scientific milestone, reflecting the magnitude of the responsibility towards confronting one of the most serious challenges threatening Yemeni society.
 
Dr. Emran stressed that the conference is not merely a fleeting academic event, but rather a national scientific platform that seeks to build comprehensive awareness about the issue of addiction and to bring together medical, psychological, social and legal expertise under one roof to formulate an integrated vision that addresses the problem at its roots. He added that knowledge is the most powerful weapon in confronting this danger and that the conference's messages are directed to every family and every young man and woman, as they are the cornerstone of protecting society. 
 
The conference chair explained that the scientific themes addressed at the event range from the effects of addiction on the nervous, psychological, and social systems to its impact on the family, as well as lectures on digital addiction, traditional and modern drugs, and the genetic, pharmacological and educational effects associated with this phenomenon. He also pointed out that this diversity underscores the conference's multi-pronged approach which combines prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
 
The conference chair concluded his remarks by thanking all the scientific and organizing committees, emphasizing that societal will supported by knowledge, make a real difference, and that this conference is not the end of the road, but rather the beginning of a new phase of institutional and scientific work to reduce the spread of addiction and protect the youth of Yemen and their future.
