■ The Deputy Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Hatim Al-Duais, delivered an important speech during the opening session of the First Scientific Conference on Addressing the Challenges of Addiction in Yemeni Society, organized by Thamar University, on behalf of the Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Hassan Al-Saadi.

At the outset of his speech, Mr. Al-Saadi conveyed the Minister’s greetings and wishes for the success of the conference, commending the efforts of Thamar University in organizing a scientific event that addresses societal security and public health.

Dr. Al-Duais emphasized that the phenomenon of addiction is no longer an individual matter or a limited social symptom, but has transformed into a national challenge requiring direct action based on scientific knowledge and educational and health research. He pointed out that the spread of this phenomenon in recent years is due to external influence and plots hatched against society, considering that combating it begins with a precise scientific understanding of its health, educational and psychological dimensions.

The Deputy Minister added that the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research views this conference as a practical step to clarify matters, emphasizing that its recommendations should not remain theoretical, but should be transformed into actionable plans in schools, universities and awareness institutions. He also called on all Yemeni universities to adopt similar initiatives that contribute to protecting youth and promoting sound awareness.

Dr. Al-Duais concluded his remarks by thanking Thamar University, its Rector, Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, and the academic leaders and the organizing committees of the conference, noting that its timing with “Martyr’s Week” gives it an additional national dimension and reinforces the meaning of protecting human life as the highest value upon which education programs should be built.
