Dr. Al-Haifi receives the Delegation of Antiquities at Yhamar University and Discusses with them Ways of Cooperation in Preserving the Yemeni Heritage

■ Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of Thamar University, along with Dr. Mohammed Hutram, the General Secretary of the University, received, Mr. Obbad bin Ali Al-Hayal, the Rector of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums in the Republic of Yemen, and Mr. Sadiq Saleh Al-Batinah, the General Director of Branches at the General Authority for Antiquities, on the University campus. The University Rector accompanied them on a tour of the University's Educational Museum.
 
The two parties discussed the conditions of antiquities in Dhamar Governorate, and ways of joint cooperation to preserve and study them. They also discussed the possibility of reopening the regional museum and the educational museum to the public in the governorate. 
 
The meeting touched on the responsible role played by the University in preserving antiquities, especially after the bombing of the regional museum during the aggression in 2015.
 
During his visit to the Thamar University Museum, Al-Hayal expressed his happiness with this visit, which comes within his inspection tours of the offices of antiquities and museums in Yemeni governorates.
 
The meeting, which was attended by Dr. Fadl Al-Omaisi, a faculty member at the University and the Director of Antiquities and Museums in the governorate, Dr. Salah Ahmed Al-Kawmani, the Head of the Department of Antiquities at Thamar University, and a number of faculty members and archaeologists, discussed ways to update the joint cooperation agreement between the University and the Authority.
 
In addition, the meeting touched on the necessity of cooperation in activating the efforts of academics, researchers and qualified graduates in the fields of scientific research related to inscriptions and antiquities, as Thamar University abounds with a distinguished group of researchers in the field of antiquities and inscription studies.
 
From his part, Dr. Al-Omaisi pointed out that Dhamar Governorate needs special attention and great care, as it is one of the richest governorates in Himyarite archaeological sites and the most important Islamic landmarks are located in it, which highlights the ancient historical roots of the governorate.
