The Faculty of Arts was established in 1996 as one of the colleges where Thamar University was opened in the same year. In that time four departments were opened namely; Archeology, Arabic Language, English Language and Islamic Studies. The Department of Islamic Studies was closed one year later. In the second year of the faculty foundation three new departments were opened. They are History, Geography and French. In 2000/2001, the Department of Psychology was opened.
In fact, the faculty is still trying to open more academic departments like Media, Translation and Department of Sociology to contribute to meeting the needs of society and its development.

■ Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of Thamar University, inspected the development projects at the Faculty of Arts today. This visit was part of his tour of the faculty, during which he met with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Amin Al-Jabr, and his deputy for academic affairs, Dr. Aziz Al-Aqra.

■ On the first anniversary of his passing, the Faculty of Arts at Thamar University organized a memorial service for Professor Dr. Khaldoun Noman, Professor of Archaeology and Museums, in the Martyr Al-Ghumari Hall at the Central Library.

■ Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Hassan Al-Haifi, the Rector of Thamar University, today conducted an inspection visit to the College of Arts, during which he held an expanded meeting with the college's leadership and academic and administrative staff.
