Thamar University Holds Scientific Workshop to Discuss Mechanisms for Transitioning to Unified Curriculums in the College of Computer Science and Informatics

■ Under the patronage of the Rector of Thamar University, Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Hassan Al-Haifi, the College of Computer Science and Informatics and the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance organized an extensive scientific workshop to review the unified curricula and discuss the transition mechanism for the academic year 1447, 2025/2026.
The workshop was attended by a group of prominent academic leaders and scholars in the field of computing and information technology.
The workshop, hosted by the college, was attended by the University's Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Professor Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, the University's Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Professor Adel Abdulghani Al-Ansi, Professor Fouad Abdulrazzaq, the Director of the Automation Center at the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, Professor Khalil Al-Wajeeh, Professor of Models and Simulation at Thamar University; the University's General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Hutram, and a number of experts and specialized academic staff.
During the opening ceremony, the University Rector welcomed the workshop's guests, emphasizing that holding it reflects Thamar University's commitment to the national vision of unifying curricula across all colleges and academic programs. He praised the competence of the College of Computer Science leadership and its high ability to respond quickly to current requirements and its commitment to implementing outcomes accurately and effectively.
Professor Munir Al-Mikhlafi, a member of the Higher Academic Accreditation Council, expressed his pride in the efforts of the university and the college's leadership, noting that the rapid response to implementing unified courses at the first-year level and uploading study schedules represents a pioneering step toward institutional academic accreditation. He indicated his hope for a rapid move toward institutional accreditation for the College of Computer Science programs, as it is the first college in the Republic of Yemen.
From his part, the Dean of the College of Computer Science and Informatics welcomed the college's guests and the university's leadership, emphasizing that the college, as the first college specializing in informatics and computer science and the best in the country has always been at the forefront and a pioneer in launching this unique workshop, which represents a qualitative precedent among Yemeni universities.
He explained that the success of the workshop reflects the college's experience and the competence of its staff, as well as its solid infrastructure, which enables it to flexibly transition to a unified curriculum.
He pointed out that the College of Computer Science at Thamar University will be the first in the Republic to move in this direction.
During the workshop sessions, the Dean of the University’s Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance, Dr. Adel Al-Ansi, reviewed the details of the unified study plans for the academic year 1447, based on the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Memorandum No. (500) issued on August 16, 2025 AD, stressing that this step represents a qualitative shift towards enhancing quality and academic accreditation.
The workshop discussions were divided into three main sessions. In the first session, Dr. Walid Wahiya and Dr. Maher Al-Sanabani reviewed the plans of the Computer Science Department. In the second session, Dr. Al-Abbas Al-Munthir Al-Alusi discussed the plans of the Information Technology Department. The third session, which was dedicated to presenting the plans of the Cybersecurity Department, was presented by Dr. Saleh Al-Emdi and Dr. Abdulrahman Muthanna.
The workshop, moderated by Dr. Abdulmajeed Al-Maqdashi from the College and Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Mawshki from the Academic Development Center, concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation. Participants emphasized their commitment to implementing the unified plans and identifying elective courses for each program to achieve academic excellence and keep pace with labor market requirements.
At the workshop which was attended by the the Center's General Secretary, Nasser Nejad, and the College's General Secretary, Bandar Al-Duhmali, it was agreed to develop a transition plan to ensure the stability of the academic process.
Recommendations will be submitted to the University Presidency in preparation for referral to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for official approval. Certificates of participation were also distributed.
