Thamar University Inaugurates Cybersecurity Lab in Cooperation with Yemen Mobile

■ In a qualitative step towards enhancing the technical education environment, linking it to the labor market and strengthening community partnerships with Yemen Mobile, a leading telecommunications company, Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of Thamar University, inaugurated the Cybersecurity Lab at the College of Computers and Informatics.This was attended by his Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yemen Mobile, Engineer Fouad Ahmed Ali Al-Qawas.
The Cybersecurity Lab, provided by Yemen Mobile, consists of 20 advanced computers equipped with tables and chairs. It represents the first collaboration between the university and the company within the framework of a partnership aimed at developing the infrastructure for technical education in Yemen. The University Rector, accompanied by guests, viewed the lab's equipment and listened to a detailed explanation from the technical team about the efficiency of the devices and their technical specifications.
Following the inauguration, an expanded meeting was held, chaired by the University Rector. The meeting was attended by the Dean of the College of Computer Science and Informatics, Professor Bashir Al-Maqalih, his Deputy, Dr. Khalid Al-Hussaini, and the first Deputy of the General Authority for Land, Survey and Urban Planning, Ali Ahmed Jassar. A number of University leaders and College Secretaries also attended.
In his speech during the meeting, Dr. Al-Haifi praised Yemen Mobile's initiative, describing it as a leading national partner. He considered this cooperation a true embodiment of the community partnership between academic institutions and national companies.
He also noted that this laboratory represents a starting point for an upcoming strategic partnership agreement that includes cooperation in the fields of training, qualification, and exchange of expertise. He has tasked his Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Prof. Abdulkarim Zabiba, with preparing this agreement.
He noted that his recent meeting with the company's chairman, Dr. Essam Al-Hamli, laid the solid foundations for fruitful cooperation between the university and the company.
From his part, Engineer Fouad Al-Qawas expressed his happiness with this cooperation, praising the warm reception by the university and the proposed offers it presented to enhance partnerships.
He explained that Yemen Mobile is one of the main beneficiaries of the graduates of the Computer Science Colleges, particularly the Cybersecurity Department, which provides the market with highly qualified personnel capable of keeping pace with rapid technological developments.
In turn, the Dean of the College, Dr. Bashir Al-Maqalih, expressed his thanks to the University Presidency and Yemen Mobile for this effective coordination, describing the equipping of the Cybersecurity Lab as an important step towards providing the national telecommunications sector with qualified personnel.
He also called for the continuation of this cooperation to equip other laboratories in the Cybersecurity Department and the Computer Science and Information Technology Departments, contributing to raising the quality of the educational process and strengthening national partnerships.
The College of Computer Science and Informatics at Thamar University is the first of its kind in the Republic of Yemen in the field of computing. Since its founding, it has graduated distinguished batches of highly qualified personnel in computer science and information technology.
The college provides its students with advanced laboratories, modern curricula and highly qualified academic and technical staff, in addition to an advanced technical infrastructure managed by a specialized data center.
At the conclusion of the event, the University Rector and the Dean of the College honored Yemen Mobile by presenting it with Thamar University shield and the College of Computer Science and Informatics shield.
Several company leaders were also honored with certificates of appreciation, including Engineer Fouad Al-Qawas, the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Abduljabbar Mohammed Al-Badawi, the Director of Company Affairs, Mr. Anwar Abdullah Al-Haimi, the Company's Social Responsibility Officer, and Mohammed Al-Badawi, the General Secretary of the College of Medical Sciences for his role in coordinating between the two parties.
The launch event was attended by the Head of the Media and Public Relations Department, the General Director of the University Rector's Office, the General Director of Financial Affairs, the Director of the Work Systems Automation Unit, the Head of the College's Cybersecurity Department, and the Director of Public Relations at Yemen Mobile in Dhamar, in addition to a number of faculty members and academic and administrative leaders from the university and college.
