A scientific Awareness Seminar was Held at Thamar University to Combat Addiction

■ In a scientific awareness seminar held in Al-Maqalih Hall in the College of Administrative Sciences, Thamar University raised awareness in the face of the silent danger.
As a part of the battle for destiny and as a part of the activities of the International Day Against Drug Abuse, under the title, "Through awareness, we protect generations and build a nation free of addiction " and under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of the University, the Counseling and Psychological Care Center hosted the symposium, which was attended by a wide range of officials and academics.
It brought together university leaders, a number of executive office officials, a select group of faculty members, doctors, leaders from the governorate, the anti-drug police and university students.
The event witnessed a distinguished attendance, including Professor Dr. Abdulkarim Zabiba, the Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research and the Director of the Counseling and Psychological Care Center, Professor Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Adel Abdulghani Al-Ansi, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, and Deputy Governor, Mr. Ahmed Ali Al-Dhurani.
Moreover, there was a number of College Deans, the University General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Hutram, the Vice-Deans, Department Heads, and a number of the University General Directors. Also, Executive Office officials, College Secretaries, Academic and Administrative Leaders from various university departments and staff from the Counseling and Psychological Care Center, including its General Secretary, Ahmed Muthanna were presented.
Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of the University, opened the event with a moving awareness-raising speech, highlighting the dangers of drugs as a soft weapon that targets the psychological, moral and social structures of individuals and society.
He emphasized the importance of societal vigilance and institutional integration to confront them, calling on relevant authorities to assume their responsibilities in raising awareness, rehabilitating, and combating them.
Professor Dr. Abdulkarim Zabiba presented a solid scientific paper addressing the intertwined relationship between mental health and spiritual emptiness, describing it as the fertile ground for addiction. He emphasized that addiction is not an isolated phenomenon, but rather the result of internal imbalances that begin with spiritual weakness and a lack of meaning and emphasized that the path to treatment begins with internal restoration, strengthening faith and connection with God.
He also provided a scientific explanation of the nature of addiction, how it permeates the human being, and highlighted the most prominent mechanisms for therapeutic and psychological intervention.
Professor Dr. Abdu Farhan Al-Hemyari drew an attention to a different type of drug, "digital drugs," warning of its silent danger in a world increasingly connected and disconnected. He demonstrated how these digital patterns can affect the brain and enslave minds in seemingly ordinary ways.
From his part, Dr. Ayham Walid Ghazal discussed the health and psychological risks resulting from drug abuse, focusing on the long-term physical effects and their psychological and social repercussions. He also emphasized the need for concerted medical, psychological and societal efforts to address prevention and treatment.
The symposium also featured a distinguished intervention by Colonel, Al-Ezzi Al-Mutawakkil, the Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department in the province.
He highlighted the efforts of security agencies in tracking down networks and dismantling sources of smuggling and trafficking, emphasizing that the battle against drugs is not solely a security issue, but rather an educational and awareness-raising one.
Dr. Karima Al-Jabjabi also presented a working paper on the importance of community awareness in combating addiction, reviewing successful models of awareness campaigns that promote a culture of awareness and empower young people to confront temptations and escape the dangers of addiction.
At the conclusion of the symposium, which included distinguished interventions, the following were delivered by Mr. Hassan Al-Mushki, the Consultant of the University Rector for Cultural Affairs, Dr. Amal Al-Mujahid, the Dean of the College of Administrative Sciences, Dr. Adel Emran, the Dean of the College of Medical Sciences, Dr. Hamoud Al-Mawshki, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dhamar General Hospital, and Dr. Mohammed Amer, the Director of Al-Saada Hospital.
The interventions concluded with a speech by the Deputy Governor of Dhamar, Mr. Ahmed Ali Al-Dhurani, who praised the awareness-raising efforts and tangible institutional integration at Thamar University. The participants and contributors to the success of the symposium were honored.
