The Vice Deanship of Graduate Studies at Thamar University was established in the second semester of the academic year 1997/1998 AD, when the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies was established at the university, and the opening of postgraduate programs (graduate studies diploma and master’s degrees), and the door for enrollment was opened in each of: The College of Education in The following specializations: (curricula and teaching methods, educational management and planning, educational psychology), and the Faculty of Arts in the following disciplines: (Language, literature, geography, Islamic history, English language), as well as in the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in the following disciplines: (Field crops: , animal production).
The Deanship of Graduate Studies continued to receive applicants until the year 2000/2001 AD, until the Vice-President of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research was established at the university following the appointment of a Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research in the year 2002 AD, and postgraduate programs were activated in all disciplines.
