■ In a distinguished academic atmosphere, Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of Thamar University, and in the presence of his Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, welcomed new students from various specializations at the Institute of Continuing Education at the Central Library at Thamar University.
The students, most notably the new medical specialty of "Midwifery," were welcomed. The Rector of the University expressed his warm welcome to the new students, appreciating the efforts of the Dean of the Institute, Professor Dr. Nabil Al-Mikhlafi, his Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Dr. Salah Al-Qawsi, and Dr. Essam Wasil, the Head of the Libraries Department, for their continued interest and engagement in serving students and developing the medical academic education environment for students of the Institute of Continuing Education.
The University Rector emphasized that the opening of the midwifery major comes in response to a previous promise made by the university, given its critical importance to both rural and urban communities. He noted that the attendance of dozens of female students in this unique major reflects the community's confidence in the outcomes of Thamar University.
He also reiterated the university's commitment to enabling graduates of the institute who have achieved a "good" or higher grade in medical diplomas by granting them the opportunity to enroll in similar colleges at the university to continue their studies and obtain a bachelor's degree.
The University Rector announced that Thamar University is moving toward opening more important medical specialties at the Institute of Continuing Education, which is dedicated to providing medical knowledge based on solid scientific foundations to thousands of students. This will contribute to serving the local community and enhance the status of the support staff, who are a key pillar in the success of the medical profession and support patients' chances of recovery and preventing complications.
The Institute's leadership, represented by the Dean of the Institute, Dr. Al-Mikhlafi, and his Deputy, Dr. Al-Qawsi, organized a field visit for the new students to the University's Central Library.
They were received by Dr. Essam Wasil, the Head of the Libraries, Printing and Publishing Department, and a number of library staff. Dr. Wasil presented qualitative initiatives, most notably the promise to provide an electronic application that allows continuing education students to access thousands of specialized international references free of charge via their phones, whether on or off campus.
