■ In line with promoting scientific research and addressing environmental and urban challenges, Thamar University hosted a scientific seminar today, Sunday, to discuss the master's thesis submitted by researcher Hamzah Mohammed Mohammed Hassan Al-Haifi, entitled "The Impact of Urban Development on Hydrological Response and Flood Risk: A Case Study of Dhamar City."

The seminar was held in the Department of Geology and Environment at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, in the presence of Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Hassan Al-Haifi, the Rector of the University, Dr. Abdulqawi Dabwan, the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Dr. Rashid Al-Sanfi, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, as well as a number of faculty and staff members from both colleges, and the researcher's colleagues and friends.

The seminar featured extensive scientific discussions on the research topic and its significance, including praise for the study and the researcher's efforts in developing the research plan. This reflects the academic interest in research addressing urban development issues and their environmental challenges, and exploring ways to utilize scientific knowledge to understand local problems and offer solutions based on scientific principles.

The research examined the relationship between urban expansion and changes in the hydrological response in urban areas, and the associated changes in surface runoff levels and flood risks, using the city of Dhamar as a case study. The importance of this topic lies in its connection to the challenges posed by urban transformations to stormwater management, and the need for scientific studies that contribute to understanding the factors influencing flood risks and strengthening the foundations of sustainable urban planning.

Through this study, the researcher aims to analyze the impact of urban development on the hydrological response, thereby contributing to identifying the factors associated with increased flood risks and providing a knowledge base that can be used to improve urban planning practices, water resource management, and environmental risk reduction, based on the study's scientific findings. The thesis is supervised by a committee comprising Professor Dr. Nabil Mohammed Ahmed Al-Areeq, Professor of Geology and Water Resources at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Thamar University, and Dr. Abdullah Abdu Ahmed Abbas, the Assistant Professor of Water Resources Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, the same university.

This academic structure reflects the integration of expertise in the fields of geology, water resources, and water resources engineering, which serves the nature of the research and its multifaceted scientific and applied dimensions.
