■ In a creative academic atmosphere, the College of Engineering at Thamar University hosted graduation project discussion sessions in the Civil, Architectural and Mechatronics Engineering departments today. The sessions were attended by university leadership and a select group of academics and engineers. This event was held under the direct sponsorship of the University Rector, Eng. Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, who participated in some of the evaluation sessions, praising the serious scientific efforts and engineering innovations he saw, reflecting the students' excellence and the depth of their academic qualifications.
Prof. Dr. Al-Haifi emphasized the remarkable diversity in the nature of the projects, which covered a wide range of urban, architectural and technical issues, including restoration and rehabilitation projects for historic buildings, planning tourist resorts, designing administrative and government buildings, as well as design proposals for the Cybersecurity Department headquarters and other initiatives that combined academic and community dimensions.
The event was widely attended by Prof. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs,Prof. Adel Al-Ansi, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Bashir Zandal, the Assistant Vice-Rector, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Fouad Al-Jarmouzi, the Vice Deans for Academic Affairs, Dr. Abdullah Abbas, Student Affairs, Dr. Khaled Mohammed Al-Shraim, Graduate Studies, Dr. Rashid Al-Sanfi, and the General Secretary of the College, Ali Al-Dhamrani. A number of deans, department heads, and directors of general departments at the university were also present.
In the Department of Architecture, 34 students presented their individual projects, which ranged in topics from urban development to the design of service and recreational facilities to the rehabilitation of historic buildings and government facilities. These projects combined and reflected a high level of technical and cognitive proficiency.
The discussion and judging committee consisted of Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Yafa'a (the Head of the Department), Dr. Mohammed Nasser Juaim, the Director of the Engineering Consulting Center, Dr. Ashraf Ali Al-Kabsi, Dr. Ali Mohammed Amer, Dr. Ali Saleh Al-Ghazali, Dr. Ahmed Abdurabbuh Al-Nahmi, Dr. Mohammed Ismail Fay'a, and Dr. Mansour Abdullah Al-Zubaidi.
As for the Civil Engineering Department, its students presented 18 collaborative projects, completed by 108 students. Discussion sessions spanned five days and these projects covered a variety of topics, most notably the design of hospitals, towers, water tanks, roads and residential cities. These projects were analyzed and designed using the latest engineering software, while adhering to seismic and static construction standards.
These projects were supervised by a group of faculty members and discussed by specialized committees. These committees included, in addition to the Dean and his Deputies, the Head of the Department, Dr. Khaled Hussein Abdulfattah, Dr. Ahmed Al-Junaid, Dr. Saleh Al-Sanbani, Dr. Arif Murshid, Dr. Ali Abdulrazzaq and Dr. Abdullah Al-Hamati.
In a related context, within the Mechatronics specialization, 11 projects were presented by 64 students. These projects were discussed over two days under the supervision of the Head of the Department, Engineer Mohammed Al-Madhwahi, and with the active participation of faculty members. These projects were distinguished by their modern technical applications and their integration of engineering and programming.
These activities are a part of Thamar University's efforts to foster a productive and innovative educational environment that propels its students into the fields of engineering, both locally and regionally with full competence and proficiency.
