Department head Speach

Dear visitors of the Department of Geography, I am so happy to welcome you all to the department websites.  I would like to let you know that the science of geography is an important academic major concerned with natural, human, environmental studies. It also concerned with geographical information systems, remote sensing, urban and regional planning, and the study of climate and biological changes. The academic staff of the Department of Geography and Information Systems consisting of 10 professors and teachers, and 7 administrators. They all play an active academic role within the efforts of the university to enhance and improve the academic programs.
The department has already started to update the study plan in a new program according to the criteria of quality and academic accreditation. We are all hope that this effort will contribute to achieving the university's goals towards serving the community of the central Yemeni regions in particular and Yemen as a whole in general. That is because the science of geography has ability to address many of the population, housing and economic, and environment problems for what would sustain the development.

MISSION

The department's mission is to prepare well-qualified national competencies in geographical science and its technologies hoping that meet the needs of the labor market and contribute in achieving the goals of sustainable development.

Aims

 
1- Understanding the features of the place within its local, regional and international sphere through applying modern geographic concepts.
2- Identifying the geographical characteristics of the place and analyzing the natural, human and planning characteristics.
3- Training students on the needed mapping skills and techniques in analyzing the geographic data and information.
4- Exploring the environmental problems in the geographical field and contributing through geographical scientific research in presenting proposals to address and limit them.
5- Contributing effectively in the geo-scientific movement through field studies and research projects.
