A workshop to Update the Description of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Program in Accordance with International Standards at the College of Medicine, Thamar University

■ As a part of its efforts to develop the medical education environment, the College of Medicine at Thamar University, in cooperation with the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance, held a workshop today entitled "Updating the Description of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Program and Courses."

The workshop was held in the Clinical Department Hall of Al-Wihdah University Teaching Hospital in Maabar.

The workshop was sponsored by Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of the University, and attended by a number of university and hospital leaders. The workshop also aimed to develop the Medicine and Surgery program in line with the unified study plans.

The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Adel Abdulghani Al-Ansi, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Hutram, the General Secretary of the University, Dr. Abdullah Al-Murtadha, the Dean of the College of Medicine, and Dr.  Adel Emran, the Dean of the College of Medical Sciences, Prof. Abdulsalam Al-Miqdad, the General Director of Al-Wihdah University Teaching Hospital in Maabar, Ahmed Al-Mujahid, the General Secretary of the College of Medicine, and academic and administrative leaders from the college and hospital.

The workshop's training program was implemented by Dr. Adel Al-Ansi, the Dean of the Academic Development Center, and Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Haifi, the Deputy General Director of the Hospital.

The sessions were moderated by Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Mawshki, the Head of the Programs Unit at the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center, and Nasser Najad Amin, the General Secretary of the Center. The workshop addressed mechanisms for updating the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery program description according to unified study plans and in line with the latest academic and professional developments in medical education.

This is the reason Thamar University has achieved academic accreditation as the first Yemeni university to achieve academic accreditation for its Medicine and Surgery program.

The workshop focused on aligning the curriculum with the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) standards to ensure quality and academic accreditation, enhancing integration between courses and aligning them with labor market and community needs. It also discussed the challenges and opportunities associated with the transition to unified curricula and proposed appropriate solutions to ensure effective implementation.
