Thamar University Celebrates the 28th Batch of Medicine

■ In an atmosphere filled with pride and the spirit of the humanitarian mission, the College of Medicine at Thamar University hosted a lavish celebration under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of the University, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Dr. Abdullah Al-Murtadha, the celebration marked the arrival of 197 students from the 28th class, who joined the first year of the academic year.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Hutram, the General Secretary of the University, Dr. Abdullah Al-Adhrai, the Vice Dean of the College for Student Affairs, and Ahmed Al-Mujahid, the General Secretary of the College, as well as prominent academic and administrative leaders.

In his welcoming remarks, the University Rector expressed his pride in the new students, emphasizing that the College of Medicine at Thamar University is the first public college in the Republic of Yemen to receive academic accreditation for its medicine and surgery programs.

Addressing the students, he added, "You were chosen from among thousands of competitors based on your efforts and excellence. Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement." Coinciding with the anniversary of the Prophet's birthday, he urged them to adhere to the morals, mercy and humanity of the Prophet, believing that the honor of the medical profession begins with adherence to values before skills.

In turn, the University Vice-Rector, Prof. Al-Rifai, noted that the students' journey to the halls of knowledge followed three weeks of preparation, selection, registration and transparent, diligent yet arduous work.

He urged them to be additional building blocks in shaping their future at this prestigious college. He also emphasized the importance of their engagement with religious and national occasions, the Palestinian cause and their commitment to their faith identity and university dress. He praised the University Rector's diligent monitoring of the coordination stages and called for appreciation of the efforts of the Dean and Vice Dean in ensuring the success of the college's academic journey.

The Dean of the College, Dr. Al-Murtadha, welcomed the university leadership and its guests, thanking the University Rector and Vice Dean for Student Affairs for their continued interest and care. He highlighted the uniqueness of the College of Medicine and its prestigious position locally and regionally and the importance of adhering to the rules and regulations that preserve the college's distinction and leadership.

The students also delivered a speech expressing their pride in belonging to Thamar University, praising the lofty status of the medical profession and saluting the medical staff in Gaza for their sacrifices.

The Cultural Consultant of the University Rector, Mr. Hassan Al-Mawshki, talked about humanity's mission in building the Earth, citing the events in Palestine as a model of steadfastness and faith.

During the celebration, a Representative of the University Student Forum affirmed the forum's support for new students and its cooperation in overcoming their difficulties. A poem fitting the occasion was also recited during the event, which included the distribution of university ID cards to students in the College of Medicine.

In a related context, the University Rector chaired a meeting at the Dean's Office, attended by the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, the Dean and his deputy, the University General Secretary, the Finance, Media and Public Relations officials, the General Director of the Governor's Office, the University General Director of Financial Affairs, the College General Secretary, and a number of faculty members.

The meeting discussed several issues, particularly the importance of the College to Dhamar Governorate and the importance of the College's allocated seats for the governorate's residents and university staff, as well as the free seats it offers. These all contribute to providing the governorate's medical sector with specialized, highly qualified and scientifically and medically qualified staff.

Financial and logistical issues were also discussed, requiring concerted efforts to support the pioneering College, under the leadership of Dr. Al-Murtadha, who possesses distinguished medical expertise and a high social and ethical standing.

During the meeting, the University Rector emphasized the need for concerted efforts to continue the College of Medicine's journey of academic excellence, as it serves as a national and regional model to be emulated.
